Considering How to Be Involved in Missions
Will you go? Will you support? Will you pray?
Here are three ways to be involved with missions.
1. Go on a mission trip
If you are just beginning to explore the world of missions a good place to start is with short-term mission trips. These trips, usually lasting 1 – 3 weeks, give you the opportunity to experience raising support, traveling overseas, and working as part of a missions team. Check-in with your local church to see what trips may be available to you. Those first experiences serving in a foreign community are so valuable.
2. Become a missionary
Many individuals and families each year are called to the field as long-term missionaries. If this is the direction you are considering, begin to pray and ask for clear direction. Start having conversations with your pastor or a leader within a mission sending organization to see what steps you should begin to take.
3. Partner with missionaries
You don’t have to travel overseas in order to be involved in missions, it has just as much to do with the state of your heart. You can become involved in missions by resolving to pray for and support both short and long-term missionaries. When missionary families are visiting your church or community offer your home to them and spend time getting to know them, pray for special requests and needs, give financially, or write and send letters of encouragement to uplift.
