Spotlight Organization: SCORE
This month’s spotlight organization is SCORE International. Read on to learn about the work God is doing through this ministry & how you can help.
What the Ministry is All About
30 years ago this month the ministry of SCORE International was born in the heart of Ron and Pat Bishop from a Godly inspired burden to expose young people to the mission field. As the burden grew into vision, and vision into action, the ministry of SCORE has witnessed thousands of individuals every year sent on short-term mission trips, numerous churches planted, and countless souls saved and spiritual leaders discipled through a ministry footprint that covers 9 countries with over 67 missionary families. The impact of God changing lives is being felt daily through the continued growth of this ministry.
What People Should Know
There are numerous mission organizations today who lead short-term mission teams. There are three areas that set SCORE apart as they continue toward the mission of “Glorifying God Through Missions in Obedience to the Great Commission.”
1. Short-term trips
SCORE International offers both international and domestic short-term mission trips that are customized for each and every group that travels with us. Even though our primary focus has been the western hemisphere, we continue to be available to organize, plan, and lead trips anywhere in the world. Our prices are kept as low as possible to foster as many short-term mission teams as possible each year.
2. Sustainable Long-term Ministries
Along with the almost 8,000 individuals who we lead on short-term mission teams each year, SCORE hosts over 67 long-term missionary families and disciple numerous national pastors in 9 countries around the world. These ministries have a ministry footprint on the ground in their respective countries, and serve every day whether or not we have short-term teams in the country. Many of these ministries include new and sustaining church plants, orphanages, day care centers, spiritual leaders training centers, women’s rescue ministries, etc. A big advantage for SCORE is that we do not have to create ministry opportunities for our short-term teams. Our short-term mission teams serve as a support to the ministries already serving in the country. God is blessing this model over and over with new relationships being created, old relationships being cultivated, and trust being gained in each country represented by SCORE’s ministry.
3. Team Prep and Follow-up
SCORE’s short-term mission teams receive an experience that allows us to focus on the logistic and the group leaders to focus on the spiritual needs of their team. SCORE assists teams with pre-planning meetings and information meetings; complete in-country planning of lodging, food, transportation, translators, trip insurance, customized ministry opportunities, much needed “relaxation” time; as well as trip follow-up meetings with interested teams once they return home.
How God is at Work
Brenda, a mature Christian who had recently returned back to her local church, felt a burden to go on a SCORE mission trip with a group of college students and young adults. Brenda and one other lady were the oldest short-term missionaries on the trip and was nervous about having never been on a short-term mission trip previously. Brenda was hooked from the first moment of landing in the Dominican Republic. From every orphan she ministered to, to every bag of food that she distributed in the villages, Brenda was compelled to enter into the daily life of those she was serving and share the love of Jesus Christ. Each night during devotions, Brenda would tearfully celebrate Christ as she prayed for those she was interacting with each day. Brenda returned home with a sincere burden to engage in the ministries of her local church in the same way that she served on the field in the Dominican Republic. Since her first trip, Brenda has helped start a local women’s discipleship ministry, has become a spiritual leader in her home town, and has now returned to the Dominican Republic on a second trip bringing two other ladies with her to experience SCORE’s ladies rescue ministry (the Lily House) and visit the children that she is now sponsoring through SCORE’s child sponsorship program. Brenda is a great example of a life that has been touched by God to live the life of a missionary where she is while partnering with SCORE by GOING, GIVING, PRAYING, and PUBLICIZING our ministry efforts.
How to Get Involved
SCORE is always in search of ministry partners who are GOING, GIVING, PRAYING and PUBLICIZING. Partners who travel with SCORE on short-term trips; partners who give financially to the general operations, on-going projects, missionaries, child sponsorships, etc.; partners who pray regularly for the ministry and those that serve with them; partners who tell others about the work and needs of the ministry. If you would like to get involved and partner with SCORE in one of these ways, please visit our website at www.scoreintl.org or contact Mickey Bane (Development Officer) at (423) 894-7111 or mickey@scoreintl.org.
